Bedford Fell

It's been falling since dawn, Darren walks down the road he grew up on
Kicking up snow, kicking up snow
Darren hums a song he heard in a country-western bar
Where he and his buddies used to go
Back when he had friends, before the farms dried up and they all moved away
The woman who sang it is named Renee
They'd been friendly back in high school, now she's divorced with a kid and another on the way
He thinks about what he's going to say

"When you sing, I feel like I could live forever
In this town, in this town, yeah
When you sing, I feel like we belong together
I just want someone to love me while I sleep"

Darren knocks at the door of the trailer home
Renee shares with her parents and the son of a man who up and moved to Charleston
He looks into her eyes and says "I'm sorry to bother you I don't really have a request
There's just something I gotta get off my chest

When you sing, I feel like I could live forever
In this town, in this town, yeah
When you sing, I feel like we belong together
I just want someone to love me while I sleep"

Renee says "I'm sorry I'm not interested
I'm flattered I am, but the last thing I need now is man"
She says "I'd ask you in but I'm getting set to put the kid to bed
It's got me feeling ill living in the city-state of nowheresville
Hey, you seem like a nice guy, did you ever think of leaving Bedford Falls
I'd do it myself but I haven't got the balls

When I sing, I feel like I'll be stuck forever
In this town, in this town, yeah
When I sing, the words seem like they don't belong together
I just want a chance to start all over again
It's Christmas Eve, dear
Don't you have a family to spend the evening with?
It's supposed to be the best night of the year"
